Richey Edwards News

It’s been 24 years since the disappearance of Richey Edwards. On 1 February 1995, life was to drastically change for the Manic Street Preachers, their fans, and family.

Richard James Edwards, guitarist and songwriter for iconic Welsh rockers, Manic Street Preachers, was last seen crossing the Severn Bridge at 2:55am after going missing from the Embassy Hotel in central London. His car found close by to a well known suicide spot, however, his missing persons case with the Metropoltian Police has still not be solved to this day and his case remains open.

Some say Edwards staged his own disappearance, whilst others say he was plagued with depression and other mental health issues that he simply could not cope with.

Lindy Heymann, an award-winning writer and director has revealed details of a new movie set to be released in 2020 that will document the life of Richey James Edwards. Named after his infamous actions with Steve Lamacq where Richey carved the phrase ‘4REAL’ into his arm during a 1991interview, the film will no doubt reflect on the life of Edwards, as well as present some of the new evidence found in a book written with the full cooperation of his sister, Rachel Edwards, suggesting that Richey staged his disappearance.

Although Richey was assumed to be dead in 2008, Manic Street Preachers and Edwards’ family still keep a bank account with his royalties from records he appeared on.

Richey last contributed, musically, to Manic Street Preachers with their 1994 album ‘The Holy Bible’. Despite his disappearance, the band carried on without him as a three piece. James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire and Sean Moore have since released several critically acclaimed albums, with Bradfield and Wire also releasing solo records.

It’s not known who will play Richey, or if Bradfield, Wire or Moore will be directly involved with the movie.
