Foo Fighters guitarist, Chris Shiflett, has been a solid member of the band now since 1999 and most people will only know him as one of the 3 axe wielding rockers from Seattle, Washington. However, he recently released his second solo record, ‘Hard Lessons’, back in June of 2019.

Shiflett recently took part in an interview with rockcellarmagazine.com to discuss his early years as a daydreaming wannabe rock star, the influence his dad had on him as a child, and also, how he landed the gig with Foo Fighters in the first place.

We were a real music-centric family, so that was always what we kind of cared about
- Shiflett

“I didn’t follow anything else; it was just about rock bands and rock music. But it wasn’t until I started playing guitar at 11 and hit my teenage years when I first had the dream of wanting to move to LA and make it and be a professional musician” Shiflett says

On joining the Foo Fighters, he said - “I think that’s why I got the gig in the Foo Fighters. I learned the fucking songs. I showed up ready to go and could have played a gig that night. I encounter my fellow musicians all the time and it never ceases to amaze me how people don’t do the prep.”

Chris then delves a little deeper into his early years and fist experiences with rock music - “Well, you know when I was a kid I had older brothers with really good record collections. We were a real music-centric family, so that was always what we kind of cared about. I didn’t follow anything else; it was just about rock bands and rock music. But it wasn’t until I started playing guitar at 11 and hit my teenage years when I first had the dream of wanting to move to LA and make it and be a professional musician.”

“My main thing is I always wanted to play music every day, and I wanted music to be my life, and it is and has been for a long time”

Chris also reveals the first record he bought with his own money was KISS Double Platinum.
