MetalCore has become one of the most popular sub-genres is the world of Metal Music since its inception in the early 00s. From American giants such as Killswitch Engage and Atreyu to the UK’s finest Architects, Bullet For My Valentine, and Bring Me The Horizon, the genre has seen many different forms of the years along with a hoard of bands trying to mimic some of the innovators of the day.

One of the main issues with new MetalCore bands is the fact that they rely too heavily on their influences when it comes to writing material. For sure, this is prominent in every genre, however, more so throughout MetalCore. Architects are one of the holy grail bands that aspiring musicians aim to become. Far too often vocalists will strain their vocal cords trying to imitate the powerful throws of Architects frontman Sam Carter and pro tool wizards will saturate every track with that powerful drum punch you here every few beats. This can make for a very monotonous experience.

However, when a band decides to follow their passion more than their ego, they can produce some beautiful music. Swedish MetalCore band SELF DECEPTION may well be that fresh sound we’re looking for.

You can expect some of the more predictable aspects of MetalCore in their new track ‘Bury Me Alive’, they’ve also focused on a very important aspect of MetalCore that most bands completely ignore, songwriting. Too many bands focus on trying to hit the heaviest notes possible whilst littering every aspect of their audio with as many “super heavy breakdowns” they can squeeze into every bar. Self Deception have taken advantage of utilizing beautiful melodies within their interpretation of the genre.

‘Bury Me Alive’ is a powerful and decisive offering from the Stockholm based metal outfit and a truly refreshing sound.
