The bush fires are estimated to have killed at least 500 Million animals, and some experts say entire species are being wiped out. 1000’s of pictures have been released over the weekend which depicts many parts of Australia as an apocalyptic hell. Not to mention heartbreaking videos of baby Kangaroos and Koala’s clinging on to life as they desperately search for a way to treat their horrific burns.

Celeste Barber, an Australian actor, writer and comedian, has managed to raise over $20,000,000 US dollars that will be donated to local fire and rescue services as animals and residents are torn from their homes.

Guns N Roses guitarist, Slash, reposted some important facts and figures originally posted by @nowspacetime. “Nearly 200 fires are still burning across the entire country of Australia, with smoke spreading across thousands of miles — affecting places as far as New Zealand, where ash has turned glaciers yellow.” The post says.

The post goes on to say “These are the devastating effects of anthropogenic climate change. This is the slaughter of life, the destruction of nature and the loss of hope. Let’s make 2020 the year that we stand up for the climate. It’s time to speak up for the voiceless and take action for what is right.”

Many global leaders have started to take climate change seriously amid protestors and climate scientists saying it’s almost too late to undo the damage done to the planet and we must act now if we want to save our fragile ecosystem.

Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, has pledged $1.4 billion towards recovery efforts, however, some say it will take decades for wildlife and ecosystems to return to many parts of Australia as it continues to bake in the scorching bush fires.

More than 15 million acres of land has been scorched — 7x the 2019 Amazon fires and 3x the 2018 California fires. The death toll has climbed to at least 24 people and more than 1,200 homes have been destroyed.
