Rock Music Review
The highly anticipated follow up, Strangefruit, was released on Friday (23rd November) and within this EP, Rival Bones wish to expand upon this by taking things up a level. Within the first few seconds of opener, Beautiful/Dangerous this becomes apparent.
Beautiful/Dangerous sets the tone for the rest of the EP, it’s an intense, heavy banger proving that the band are determined to outdo their previous efforts. This track is high tempo, paired with massive vocals that provide the backbone to this EP.
Rival Bones are a two-piece, yet make enough noise for anyone to believe that they’re in fact double their size. The pair prevent their sound from becoming too repetitive through including elements of other genres, like post-punk, stoner rock and also classic rock, therefore, giving all 4 of these tracks a different sound.
‘Tie So Tight’ is a groovy number, which holds a twisting and turning guitar riff which makes a huge impact. This track tells the story of the frustration of living in a society that sets you up to fail.

“Pull Me Under” begins with a guitar riff which is reminiscent of Black Sabbath at their peak, this track is extremely addictive and is destined to become an anthem, with vibrations that you’d expect to get any sized venue bouncing.
‘Hot Blooded’ aims to be a desert rock track with a mixture of fuzz and aggression, holding echoed vocals and an interchangeable guitar riff which is reminiscent of early Queens Of The Stone Age.
Overall, Strangefruit takes Rival Bones up to the next level, further fine-tuning and enhancing an undeniable talent, putting together intense rock tracks that are amazing to listen to, this EP will make listeners hungry for more and will give the band a deserved boost to their already progressing career.
