Spain isn't exactly known as a Heavy Metal mecca, but it appears one band have caused chart chaos by entering the official album charts at number one, even beating Foo Fighters to the top spot.

We made it to #1 in Spanish charts!!! We can't believe it, this is not only a giant step for us, but for the whole Metal scene in this country
- Angelus Apatrida

Angelus Apatrida formed in Albacete, Spain back in 2000, around the time when Nu-Metal was ruling the airways and good old MTV 2 started to showcase bands like Korn and Rammstein. They managed to land a record deal with global Metal giants, Century Media Records, for their 3rd studio album, Clockwork, released in 2010 and have been building up a dedicated following ever since.

The fact that they're recently released 7th studio album has topped the official album charts, and not just a Rock or Metal Chart is a true testament to the power of Metal, showing that the genre is truly alive and well. We expect bands such as Slipknot, Rammstein and Slayer to top album charts, not a Thrash band from Spain! Angelus Apatrida also made their debut chart entry in Germany at number 49.

In a statement to the press, the band said: "We don't get any radio, we don't get any TV, we are not featured in the more relevant media, but still we can make it to the top thanks to the hard work of a great team and those who are passionate about Heavy Metal music; thousands of you helped us making it this far by buying or listening 'Angelus Apatrida', you are the best! Thanks for helping us put Metal back to where it belongs!!!”
